Favorite TV Shows!
Well, since I make lists of everything, I already have a list made up! I'll give you a little explanation of what each one is. It gets a bit long, so I will put a cut for the blog readers.
Favorite Live Action Shows:
- The Big Bang Theory (Nerdy science guys deal with roommate issues and social situations in their geeky way)
- Da Ali G Show (An actor plays various obnoxious characters and records his interactions with unsuspecting people)
- Densha Otoko (Drama about a man who protects a woman on a train from a harasser and ends up trying to date her, assisted by online advice)
- Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog (A singing supervillain pursues romance and inclusion in the Evil League of Evil)
- Father Ted (Three misfit priests live in an isolated parish, and hijinks ensue)
- The Guild (Geeky MMORPG players meet each other in real life to battle ordinary demons)
- House, M.D. (A misanthropic genius doctor diagnoses bizarre illnesses while dealing with his personal life, pill addiction, and interpersonal issues within the diagnostic team)
- Huge (Fat teens at a weight-loss camp explore relationships and identity far beyond issues that relate to their size)
- Monty Python's Flying Circus (Skit comedy mixes up highbrow humor with visual gags and absurdity)
- Red Dwarf (Science fiction comedy about the last living man on a spaceship, with a hologram, a mechanoid, and a cat for company)
- Roseanne (Family comedic drama about family life and marriage)
- Roundhouse (Teen musical skit show with family-and-friend issues resolved via dance and song)
- Sesame Street (Awesome kids' show about learning and friendship)
- Tenacious D (A rock duo chases stardom, though they've really only gotten as far as open mic night)
- The Upright Citizens Brigade (Sketch comedy featuring "agents" and an episode theme with very off-the-wall, disturbing jokes)
- You Can't Do That On Television (Kids' sketch show mostly revolving around school and friendship issues, with lots of sight gags)
American Animated Shows:
- Adventure Time (A boy and his magical dog have bizarre adventures while being heroes in a post-apocalyptic world)
- Animaniacs (A huge cast of characters gets into mischief, most notably three siblings of unidentified species often annoying historical and literary figures)
- Aqua Teen Hunger Force (A team of living fast food items battles demons and aliens while trying to get along with their neighbor and each other)
- Avatar: The Last Airbender (In a world trapped in an elemental war, one person who can control all four elements is the only hope)
- Avatar: The Legend of Korra (A revolution is coming, pitting the elementally talented against those who lack the talents)
- Beavis & Butt-head (Ridiculous teenage boys make fun of music videos and do poorly in school)
- The Boondocks (Ex-inner-city kids move in with their grandfather and explore racial disparity, activism, and social justice)
- The Brak Show (A space villain turned lovable weirdo has absurd adventures in the neighborhood)
- Earthworm Jim (A giant earthworm in a special suit fights the forces of evil)
- Freakazoid (A computer geek got turned into an insane superhero when the entire Internet got absorbed by his brain)
- Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law (A superhero is also a lawyer and it's pretty super)
- Home Movies (A group of kids makes home movies and deals with offbeat adventures)
- Invader Zim (An inept space alien tries to take over Earth while going to school and not being exposed as extraterrestrial)
- Liquid Television (Experimental, mostly animated skits by various artists take turns)
- The Powerpuff Girls (Three super-powered children were created by a professor and now they battle evil)
- Red vs. Blue (Halo characters get bored fighting each other and start asking existential questions and exploring life and death)
- Ren & Stimpy (A dog and a cat have gross and over-the-top adventures while dealing with each other's idiosyncrasies)
- Robot Chicken (Pop culture is absorbed and regurgitated in perverted ways through stop-motion animation)
- Rugrats (A group of babies, primarily pre-verbal, use their imaginations and go on adventures together)
- Samurai Jack (A wandering samurai is on a quest to go back in time so he can kill a demon)
- Sealab 2021 (A group of characters living under the sea act ridiculous and get along poorly)
- The Simpsons (A married couple with three kids deals with family and cultural issues in a comedic and often absurd way)
- South Park (Four elementary school kids bully each other throughout their friendship as well as involve themselves in global issues and make political and social commentary through comedy)
- Spaceghost Coast to Coast (A superhero with a talk show interviews odd guests and makes his villains run the board and music)
- The Tick (A superhero in a blue bug suit is an obliviously goofy but very strong protector, and he fights crime and helps his friends)
- X-Men (Mutants have superpowers and sometimes they have to fight each other but other times they just have to get humans to stop hating on them)
Japanese Animated Shows:
- Azumanga Daioh [Great King Azumanga] (Children in school, and their teachers, all have personality quirks and lovable everyday adventures)
- Binzume Yousei [Bottle Fairy] (Tiny girls learn lessons from their normal-sized "sensei," teaching lessons to children at home)
- Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon [Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon] (Schoolgirls transform into heavenly-body-inspired warriors to protect their world from evil)
- Boku no Chikyuu o Mamotte [Please Save My Earth] (Reincarnated scientists from the moon must remember their former lives to stop one of them from succeeding in a revenge plot)
- Chikyuu Shoujo Arjuna [Earth Girl Arjuna] (A girl has a near-death experience and becomes a spiritual warrior, learning about the environment through a mentor)
- Chobits (A young man finds a computer-girl and tries to figure out why she's damaged and where she comes from)
- DiGi Charat (A space girl and her sister help run a gaming store, and fight aliens and their rival sometimes)
- Digimon (Kids get drawn into a digital world with evolving digital pets that protect them and bond with them)
- El-Hazard (High school kids and a teacher get pulled into another world where they end up very involved in local politics and wars)
- Erufu wo Karumono-tachi [Those Who Hunt Elves] (A group of three humans gets transported into an odd world and can't go home until they find all the pieces of their transport spell on the bodies of various elves)
- Excel Saga (Two girls assist a megalomaniac in various plots, and one is too hyper to do anything right and the other dies frequently--parodies different anime styles in each episode)
- Eyeshield 21 (A demonic quarterback recruits a star running back for his American football team and they all learn about strength and teamwork)
- Fruits Basket (A cursed family that turns into Chinese Zodiac animals is helped by a kind-hearted girl)
- Fushigi Yuugi [The Mysterious Play] (Two schoolgirls interact with an ancient story by taking turns in a book, becoming priestesses who bond with their protectors to summon gods)
- Gakuen Alice (A girl's best friend has to move to a special school, but when she gets into the school herself, she finds out it's not for just anyone)
- Haibane Renmei [Charcoal Feather Federation] (People inexplicably hatch out of eggs and become angel-like creatures who have to explore their afterlife before they can ascend, and interact with each other and non-angel people in the city)
- Haunted Junction (The son of a Christian priest, the daughter of a Shinto priest, and the son of a Buddhist monk run the student council at a haunted school)
- Ichigo Mashimaro [Strawberry Marshmallow] (School kids and one of their older sisters have everyday adventures with a little absurdity thrown in here and there)
- Kaleido Star (A girl who's always dreamed of being a gymnast/circus performer auditions and is accepted to Kaleido Stage, where she enters the performance field on the ground floor)
- Kami-chu!: Kamisama de Chugakusei [Kamichu! Middle School Goddess] (A girl wakes up one day and finds she has become a deity, so she tries to figure out a specialty and get her own shrine)
- Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou [His and Her Circumstances] (A gifted student finds her rival in the form of a boy, and while struggling to beat him, she falls in love)
- Karin (A backwards vampire who bleeds instead of bites people struggles to fit in at school and among her family of normal vampires)
- Kodomo No Omocha [Child's Toy] (A child star has an ongoing rivalry with her classmate who's somehow got the teachers under his thumb)
- Lovely Complex (An overly tall girl and an overly short boy have trouble finding significant others because of their height, so they try to help each other hook up)
- Mahou Tsukai Tai! [Magic Users Club] (The magic club at school involves REAL magic, but most people have no idea the tiny club is fighting aliens with their powers)
- Master of Mosquiton (An adventurer who wants to live forever teams up with a vampire and his assistants to find an artifact of eternal life)
- Musekinin Kanchou Tylor [The Irresponsible Captain Tylor] (A ridiculously incompetent starship captain has incredible luck and bungles his way through leading his crew)
- Nichijou [My Ordinary Life] (School children have involved games and overactive imaginations as they go to school with some very odd characters)
- NieA_7 (Aliens of various sorts have moved to our planet, and one girl can't seem to get a lazy, greedy alien to stop sleeping in her attic and making demands)
- Ninin ga Shinobuden [Ninja Nonsense: The Legend of Shinobu] (A girl is training to be a ninja and has a companionate relationship with another girl who's training for school exams, so they help each other)
- Ranma 1/2 (A boy who is cursed to become a cute girl whenever he gets wet has various martial arts adventures and struggles with his engagement to another martial artist)
- Saber Marionette J (In a futuristic world populated only by men, a guy finds company and protection with "marionette" girls who develop their own personalities and emotions)
- Shoujo Kakumei Utena [Revolutionary Girl Utena] (A girl who dislikes female gender roles ends up fighting to be engaged to a princess, and gets involves in the creepy student council who all want the princess too)
- Tenchi Muyo [No Need for Tenchi] (A boy becomes the center of a harem of space girls who all want him for their own reasons, and sometimes he has to team up with them to fight a threat)
- Tenshi na Konamaiki [Cheeky Angel] (A beautiful and athletic girl is looking for a way to return to being a boy, while being wooed by many boys who are trying to help but don't want her to stop being a girl)
- Video Girl Ai (A girl from a videotape comes to life and helps a boy understand love and sacrifice)
